Atkins' Caborn among first to earn mastery-level certification for
park and recreation professionals

Orlando, FL – Kristin Caborn, Atkins project manager for planning and landscape architecture, recently earned the Certified Park and Recreation Executive (CPRE) certification granted by the National Certification Board in conjunction with the National Recreation and Park Association. The CPRE program recognizes advanced skills and competencies related to the professional practice and delivery of park and recreation programs and services. Caborn is among the first ever to earn this new certification.

To earn the CPRE certification, individuals must hold a current Certified Park and Recreation Professional certification; meet specific requirements for education and experience; and successfully pass an exam covering a comprehensive set of topics including communication, finance, human resources, operations, and planning.

Caborn has extensive parks and recreation management and planning experience with Atkins, including managing several multimillion-dollar parks and recreation projects and providing master plan implementation and phasing plans services for public sector clients. She is the former Parks and Recreation Director for the City of St. Cloud, Florida, where she was actively involved in all aspects of park planning, including public involvement and facilitation. Caborn also specializes in environmental design strategies that help stop crime, and she is certified as a Florida Crime Prevention through Environmental Design Practitioner.

“Kristin was part of the first class ever to take the CPRE exam, and she was one of only 52 people in the nation who passed. This is an important achievement for Kristin, whose expertise further enhances Atkins’ impressive portfolio of parks planning and design capabilities,” says Atkins associate vice president Willson McBurney, RLA.

CPRE establishes a national standard for managerial, administrative, and executive parks and recreation professionals and focuses on the practical knowledge and current real-world skills necessary in today’s changing park and recreation environment. It signifies to the public that the leaders of park and recreation agencies seek to uphold the highest standards of service for the communities they serve.
