Atkins came up with the original concept design for this unique solution to capture renewable energy from ocean waves. The rubber-bodied Anaconda wave energy device works by encouraging energy to transfer across from the ocean waves to the water held inside the device’s interior—this energy would then be captured by a mini-turbine and fed into the grid.

The Atkins' designed device has the potential to revolutionize wave energy capture. Anaconda uses the simple principle of bulge waves—where passing waves excite the rubber body causing bulges to form which channel the ocean wave energy through the device. There are very few moving parts and it is mainly made of rubber which means Anaconda has unique survivability in a marine environment. It has received backing from the UK’s Carbon Trust.
