For Douglas County, Colorado, Atkins prepared a federal funding packet to be used to help secure potential federal funds for improvements to the C-470/US 85 interchange in southwest Denver. Specific work elements included preliminary cost estimates, data analysis, and development of a high-end presentation. The analysis included developing the purpose and need for the improvements that included safety, capacity deficiencies, and the regional need for the facility.

Additionally, Atkins developed a conceptual design for the C-470/US 85 interchange including modifications to upgrade the existing diamond interchange and the addition of loop ramps and fly-over ramps to increase interchange capacity for the 2025 design year. Our scope of work included projecting existing traffic volumes to the 2025 design year and determining lane requirements for the main line and ramps. In addition we surveyed the existing right-of-way and identified of future right-of-way needs.
