George Bush Intercontinental Airport Automated People Mover

USA-TX | SECTOR: Aviation

Atkins is the prime construction manager for the third phase of the automated people mover project at George Bush Intercontinental Airport (IAH) in Houston, Texas. The $130 million project consists of five construction packages bid as four separate contracts.

Atkins provides the following services:

  • Coordinates all contractor schedules in one master schedule to meet milestone dates and turnover requirements to complete the project on time.
  • Reviews completed and issued construction documents for value engineering (VE) opportunities, including an independent VE and construction evaluation of the project that resulted in more than 100 ideas, many of which—if implemented—would realize life-cycle-cost savings in addition to capital construction cost savings.
  • Provides and manages all onsite inspections, and coordinates traffic impacts with the Houston Airport System to ensure that traffic interruptions are minimal.
  • Coordinates all construction issues with the engineer of record.
  • Manages the budget for the entire project (all five phases).
